WELCOME TO THE CLUB.
Heya! I’m EK.
I’m a working mom of two wonderful boys with no shortage of craziness. We have days filled with work, school, sports, the occasional crisis, and the constant feeling of simply surviving!
I often find myself seeking information throughout this crazy journey of life, and when I finally find answers, it’s as if so many others were already in the know. “Welcome to the club,” I was telling myself often – feeling like an insider, or as if I found a hack to make life just a little bit easier. So, I wanted to build workingmomsclub.com to share the hacks, tips & tricks I’ve learned along the way, from thriving through adversity, growing my family, and climbing my career ladder as an Executive-level marketer while maintaining a life filled with travel and joy.
My paradigm shift.
I grew up through a ton of adversity, which I know many of us have. I was born and raised in Las Vegas and had parents riddled with gambling addiction-driven poverty, instability and unavailability. I’m one of 6-7 siblings, depending on how you count. I had severe eczema and asthma with limited access to healthcare which resulted in unplanned hospital visits, bullying, and the strife that comes with the lack of parental presence.
Throughout my childhood, I was bullied due to my skin disorder, but I realized I had a uniquely, wonderful attribute – I never victimized myself or felt bothered by the bullying, rather, I always felt victorious. I would always find the “silver lining” and was proud of the weird confidence I gained through this. I had this same behavior across all aspects of my life – I would tell myself every day, “I have to do the opposite of whatever my family did in their life…with MY life.”
This paradigm shift allowed me to take challenges head-on in all facets of my life. My mental glass is always half-full…that it can never be that bad. It has made me a sound decision maker, competitive, optimistic, and has shown me that I can control the outlook of my life.
This is the foundation of building my life today. I’m consistent, confident, compassionate, and agile which has helped me grow in my career becoming a Leader within five years of graduating college. It has helped me manage anxiety and mental wellness, create clarity with my life choices, and challenge male bias in my industry. All while raising two boys with my husband that I’m proud beyond words to be able to give them the life they have today.
I am proud of myself. Proud that I was The One in my family tree that was able to veer off-course and build a new destiny not be defined by my upbringing…which I take in stride with grace and humility each and every day.
The hustle and hard work doesn’t stop. In fact, it feels harder because my starting line was so far behind. But this pushes me everyday to be the best for my family and my career…now if I could only figure out how to stay hydrated here and there. 😉
Thank you so much for listening to my story and being part of this community. I love sharing my story and both growing alongside and inspiring women around me. I’m excited to collaborate with you all, hear your stories, and make the Club we’re all in the best it can be.
